The rescue diver course is widely known as the most challenging non-professional course in scuba. It changes your diving mentality from being solely focused on yourself to observing everyone in your group for signs of distress or potential problems. You will leave this class with improved diving skills, CPR certification, the ability to mitigate risk for yourself & others, & the ability to work in a team setting in the unlikely event of a true emergency.

What to expect in this course:

The rescue diver course is considered one of the most challenging yet rewarding courses available for recreational divers. You’ll spend 2 days working with your instructor & other students in various emergency scenarios. This is a physical hands-on course that teaches you how not only to rescue others, but how to keep yourself safe as well.

Who this class is for:

  • Any advanced certified diver who wishes to expand their diver knowledge and skill set
  • Any advanced certified diver who is comfortable and familiar with their own gear
  • Any advanced certified diver who wants to focus on gaining tools to help other divers
  • Anyone interested in becoming a dive leader or professional

What you will learn:

  • Prevention & causes of scuba diving accidents
  • Scuba diving lifesaving techniques
  • Hyperbaric injuries & management
  • Accident management skills
  • Underwater rescue skills
  • Shore/boat rescue skills
  • Surface rescue skills
  • Surfacing unresponsive divers
  • In-water diver transport
  • In-water rescue breathing
  • Rescuing a panicked diver on the surface
  • Rescuing a panicked diver underwater
  • Safely removing divers from water
  • How to write an Emergency Action Plan (EAP)

Course Requirements:

Rescue course prerequisites:

  • 15 years or older (Under 18 requires parental consent)
  • Current EFR/DFA Pro/CPR & First Aid Certification
  • Oxygen Administration Provider (optional, recommended)
  • Advanced diver certification
  • 15 logged dives
  • Approved diver medical form
  • Liability waiver

Gear requirements:

  • Standard scuba gear (regulators, BCD, weights, tanks, computer – rentals available)
  • Personal scuba gear (mask, fin, snorkel, boots – student must provide)
  • Pocket mask

Class requirements:

  • Satisfactorily complete the online learning course with a test score of 80% or higher
  • After instructor remediation, a test score of 100%
  • Complete all open water requirements efficiently
  • Demonstrate mature and sound judgment concerning dive emergency planning and execution
  • Ensure the certifying agency has your photo on their website (no hats or sunglasses)

Time requirements:

  • 5 – 8 hours for online learning
  • 2 days of instructor led surface & in-water training
