Overview:
Welcome to our monthly meeting series! This month we are going to venture out into the cold and do a little good for charity. We are partnering with
Mystery Lake &
Down Under Divers Club (DUDC) to support their annual Polar Plunge event which benefits MADD (
Mothers against Drunk Driving).
Meeting Information:
- Date: January 1st, 2024
- Event Time: 10am - 2pm (polar plunge starts at 12pm, chili eating immediately after)
- Location: Mystery Lake
- Topic: Polar Plunge
- Cost: $20 (payable to mystery lake on their website).
Event Details:
In January we give back!! Strip off that wetsuit & jump into some cold water, all for charity! Brian has agreed to be in the water as a safety diver, so feel free to cannonball me as much as you like. Entrance fees for Mystery Lake are $20 and they donate all proceeds to MADD. In addition, DUDC organizes a chili cooking competition to warm you up afterwards that is open to both cooking & eating participants. The chili is free however we do ask for a voluntary donation ($5 a head is typical) which goes towards the chili expenses & DUDC (a non-profit organization).
Logistics:
If you are not familiar with Mystery lake, they do have changing trailers to dry off, get out of your wetsuit, change clothes, etc if you participate in the plunge or go diving. In years past they have had news crews do stories on the plunge but have no idea if they will be out this year. There is a TON of parking and ample signage to find your way around.
Location Details:
Mystery lake is a privately owned quarry which is primarily used for scuba diving. Anyone who participates MUST sign up at the
Mystery Lake website, fill out the waivers and pay your money to attend. Mystery lake is a DEEP quarry (108' t0 the bottom), dark and a very silty bottom. If you plan on going diving please request a local site briefing from Amy, Brian, or one of the other instructors or experienced divers if you've never been here before.
